View Full Version : Chub Baits
I know cheese is a great bait for Chub and know the usual others like slugs, lobs, bread, maggots etc. Anyone out there come across any Chub baits that work well, unusual ones? I caught a chub on a dolly mixture once /images/forum/icons/smile.gif just I am after trying some unusual baits to try and catch one of these 6lb monsters.

I have caught chub up over 6lbs on 22mm boilies made from CC's hemp mix but they also caught me smaller ones. I also had some quite large chub using minnows, they are easy to catch if you know somewhere to get them from.

Try fresh prawns and tiger nuts.

I have just come back from my daughters and the children were eating cheese strings, cut up it could be hair rigged or fished on the hook. Obtainable from Tesco's and very smelly, looks just right for old rubber lips.

Sardine chunks are a good bait, chop them up when the fish are frozen or you'll get in a right mess!

Why not live bait, recently I had a 5lb 12ozsChub take a 4inch roach whilst fishing with a whip.
In the past I used minnows for Chub but nothing the size of that roach.

I have had Barbel on minnows, spot on bait for them if there are minnows in the water, I had mine from the mole under a float. Plugs take chub but I wouldn't use them for chub

A bait which i have taken a few chub on has been ****les. Used plain or flavoured up, they stay on the hook or hair lovely. Iv'e also found they take colourings quite well.

Ian,
In 1957 whilst fishing for Pike on the Waverly strech of the Lee, Paul Pasco my best freind caught a 6lb Barbel on a live gudgeon. This held the junior Barbel record for a few years, he also got a cup.
