I have just gained permission to fish the river Avon at downton in Wiltshire( formerly known as the "Bull Hotel downton) Does anybody have any info they could part with, location tactics and species. The info i have is it can be quite weedy and holds some good carp as well as the usual river species, any help would be appreciated.

I was thinking of taking the Doc for a lesson or two, maybe we could agree on a date that would suit us all any ideas?

Jack don't let the boss give you an Avon lesson on the Royalty cos he's an expert blanker there.8lb 12oz chub flipping hell as they say.

Ian, i thought you had already made the connection rgds access.I wouldnt worry about pressure on this stretch if the amount of anglers fishing our other stretches is anything to go by.It is very unlikely that we will see any other members due to distance involved or maybe having to put alittle effort into their fishing , woops their goes the popularity trophy.September is the real start of the river season for me , due to the distance i was thinking of a 24 hr trip which means the Doc would have to come to carry all my stuff and cook for me. How big is that chub going to be this winter? Neil you secret squirrel i was hoping you would have replied to my original post and parted with some info , im sure Ian could take a guest if his palms were greased with local knowledge!

This looks like it could develop into an autumn contest of RMC Veterans versus the Young Pretenders.

By the way congratulations on the fine catch of crucians were they from the summer pit?

And apparently Adrain Smith took 83 crucians to well over 3 lb from the said venue last month ! See Angling Times this week. Perhaps a visit is in order Jack ?
