Hi all,

I've just moved to Christchurch in Dorset and am therefore now perfectly placed for both the Stour and Avon. I'm spoilt for choice with both Ringwood and CAC stretches, and I really dont know where to start - I'd like to get some advice to narrow it down a bit. I fancy getting amongst some roach and chub this winter with the chance of some biguns! Quieter stretches if possible and I dont necessarily want to fish the more obvious fisheries (Royalty/Throop).

Very grateful for any tips lads...pm's if need be! Many thanks.

One of my favourite stretches was Ashley & Ellingham.

Get both tickets and have a walk around some that you like the look of. Also, drop into Christchurch Angling Centre, Bournemouth Fishing Lodge or go talk to Rich and Ash in Ringwood Tackle. Give Avon Angling a bell which is next to Ringwood Tackle.

I'm a member of both and tend to fish the avon about 3 or 4 times a week. both clubs have advantages though for me Christchurch is better cos avon at Ibsley is only 15 minutes away. But if your living in Christchurch you have both on your doorstep. If you don't want to spend money on two memberships join one and try. But I think what you will find is you will soon realise the advantages of both.
If you want a bit more info pm me for my number

Thanks Lads - and thanks Olly for the PM's.

Sounds like I just need to suck it and see. I'll probably end up joining CAC and RAA, as they both have stretches and lakes I want to fish - the Royalty really is on my doorstep so I guess its rude not to have a go there...

Ray, if you look on the Davis Tackle website I believe there are contact details for Brian Willson who is a Throop bailiff and is a very helpful guy.

Going by my trip a few weeks ago a lot of fish were coming out on the float and maggot Ray, or cheesepaste on the lead. I have to say the local guys and bailiffs were very helpful and I am sure they will put you in some good swims. I would have been tempted to have another dabble this week myself but I suspect the river will be a bit out of sorts ?

Il second the Avon and Ringwood tackle, both well run shops and always good for a bit of info

One of my favourite stretches was Ashley & Ellingham.

I used to really enjoy fishing the Ashley bends and Ellingham estate, during the week you wouldn't see a soul.
