Hi

Thinking about joining here, and am just wondering how its fishing, and what sort of fish i could expect from here, cant seem to find a thread on here about it.

Cheers

fishing fine at the moment. match at the weekend was won with 15lb of bits, which equates to about a thousand silvers. loads of perch showing to lobs and livebaits, i had a good netful of perch last monday. chub are taking boilies late at night, as are the barbel which are fussy but will make a mistake sooner or later.

as with anywhere, a bit of time and effort equals rewards. its not easy, but i cant imagine a nicer place to sit of an evening at the moment....

Just been down their this evening, for a look, i am assuming that you can go over the first turnstyle and walk all the way to the end fence where the river meanders off to the right.

Could not see any signs where the cemex stretch finishes

Assuming you're in the correct car park, the Cemex one is to the left as you reach the bridge over the river, you simply follow the path and river until you eventually reach a right angle bend about 50 yds short of a road bridge. Probably about 3/4 mile of river.

lovely weir at the top end , go light though as its a bit like an obstacle course . I always did well in the first swim by the bridge for the chub , theres a deep section tight to your bank, try a lobworm down there , loads of perch too . Hope u get a few fish in the bag !
Oh , and watch out for the adders , theres quite a few i saw last year whilst i was fishing the stretch .

Dave

I know that when the new landowner took over a few years ago he did a lot of work down there, but I didn't realise he'd installed turnstiles?

As Neil says, left bank (as you're facing upstream) and walk till your legs fall off. I think the true boudary is the big tree (oak I think) on a right hand bend. If you reach Milesone Avenue or Uri Gellor's house you've gone too far. :)

Travel light, one rod, a bucket to sit on, and have a dip in every swim. That way you'll get a feel for the place and you can always revisit any swims on the way back to your car.
If you are after the barbel, then pellet, paste or meat. Personally I would take bread and lobs and fish for the big chub, best after the first frosts.

Good luck.

I meant styles stroller lol but thanks for showing me up for the idiot i am lol

Went to tackle shop today and got some fishmeal groundbait, hemp, and some 8 mm pellets to go with my lobs from the garden gonna pick some pepperami and luncheon meat up before i go.

Hopefully it will not be a total washout

Was not a total washout! actually was a nice day after lunchtime, was sweating sitting there in my winter gear, was windy tho, tried worm with groundbait and had a few perch and a solitary dace, didnt roam too far from the car as it was supposed to turn nasty in the afternoon so wanted to be close so could get the brollie if needed, am thinking about doing an overnighter on friday night and trying further down with pellet and meat.

was that you with the white van in the cemex car park yesterday afternoon then? i drove down for a look to check the water levels. only one vehicle in both car parks. which meant the marsh and cottage swims (tdfc) were empty, which is a first!!!

boilies = barbel. dont mess about with 1980's luncheon meat and all that confusing stuff. good quality boilies fished over crushed boilie and some hemp will always work.

Yeah that was me, i got my old man to get a ticket as well so we both had a go yesterday, river did seem to calm down a bit around 5, was flying through when we first got there.

FishingTom

Yes Dave, i have fished the TDFC bit for a few seasons, Sam is right in what he says about boilies but you would be mad not to try meat (sorry Sam, it catches me loads of fish).

Keep mobile and you will find the fish.

I went down there again on Tuesday for a few hours without any luck ended up catching a few dace, tried up the far end and worked my way down, not very experienced on rivers so its all a learning curve i suppose

What size do the perch go in there? are there pike in the stretch as well? i have seen something chasing smaller fish both times i have been there and am wondering if its worth targeting them as well?

Stroller
07-10-2010, 22:43
Dave, keep at it, the only way to gain experience is to put the time in.

Like most rivers it can be a bit moody, but there are some rewards to be had.

Perch? Pike? Seeing as St Pats is a distributory of the Thames then expect all the species. A big lob worm will catch you fish in the winter. Not had any perch of note, but there are BIG chub.

Tight lines

i have had them to just under 2lb, and i have had plenty in the past few seasons with several dozen so far this year. look in novembers TCF mag for a perch feature on the pats.

tom, i know you love the 1980's barbel scarer and i doff my cap to your meat rolling skills. each to their own. I just cant bring myself to use it!!!

dave, you have pm.

bit slow at the moment, one barbel to my rods in the past week with not a lot else to report from upstream unless any tdfc members on here know different.

however, for the first time in over 8 years of fishing at the pats, i had the displeasure of clearing up a substantial amount of litter on monday evening which was spread along the path and in the cemex car park. i have a very good idea who it was as the litter made a trail to where these particular idiots were fishing on friday night, so i will be having strong words when i see them next as well as relieveing them of their tickets.
