Hi all

I have a canon 50mm ef 1.8 lens.. is there much difference between this and the ef 1.4 lens ?

also would this lens be ok on a canon digi slr.. 400d for example ? and give the same effect as on my slr ?

thanks
rob

not £200 more of a difference imo, best bang per buck lens you can buy.

Great on Slr or dSlr

Cracking little lens don't be put off by the low price and don't bother with the 1.4 unless you pixel peep.

Either will work fine on a 400d.

Unless you need the extra low light capability of 1.4 then you may as well stick with the 1.8. Both lenses at 1.4 and 1.8 have a very narrow depth of field so critical focus is needed. If anything the 1.4 may be prone to flare and subject to an increased amount of CA

I've got a Sigma 50 1.4, it's a very nice lens but as mentioned above the need to use it wide open is minimal so isn't really worth it.

Your 50mm becomes 80mm on a Canon 400d due to the crop factor of x1.6... It has a knock on with depth of field, but its unlikely you will notice.
