Keep your eyes peeled and fish where you see them. If they weather is predicated right then you will see fish on either lake. The South has been fishing better than Sandy of late, but that could all change with the weather!!
Best of luck, might see you if you venture over to Sandhurst.

last carp out on 18th January i think...10lb common......and there was one out on the 4th January....24lb 12oz mirror...which was to me. that's it apart from a couple of lost fish. in terms of other catches i think maybe 2 bream, 457 tufties and 4 swans.... http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When i was down there it froze partially and the only real free areas in the morning where in fron of the island and to the right in front of the baliffs area.

G_RAAAA
12-02-2003, 12:51
i wonder if that is the "uniform" freezing formation..
and just what exactly is the baliffs area..sounds very cosy http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

LMSAO now..... u folks crack me up!!!!

the island has the most fished and least productive swims on the lake, although the fish I have seen off there have tended to be 20+ (thats if they are not bream)

Sandy is one of the first lakes on the complex to freeze, and one of the last to thaw, it can go completely overnight at times.

The areas that go the first are the corners & margins (somewhat unsuprisingly) and the area in front the the car park and secret (thats swim 1 - where u and bovis where G) and swims 2-4)

As it freezes, these will be the next batch of swims affected;

Swims 1 (secret) to 11 (palace) (ROAD BANK SWIMS)
Swims 16 (pontoons) to swim 18 (Nursery/copse bank corner)
Swims 20 - 22 (Copse/nursery bank corner)
Swims 28-30 (pipes corner)

And these swims are the last to go;

Swims 23-25 (Bailiff's) (G - thats the grassy bit with 3 swims on next to the island)
Swims 12-15 (middle road bank)
Swims 26-27 (islands)
Swims 30-31 (second pipes and pipes)

As Raf and Lee (cmoncarpcmon) will tell you, its does freeze over pretty rapidly when it goes, 3 anglers managed to get their rods frozen into the lake over the weekend of the 11th/12th/13th Jan, so then we shut the lake!!!

FYI, that weekend on saturday at 4am it had dropped to -5, so I would guess it would need to drop to at least -3 before the lake will be seriously affected....

temps of -1, -2 should still leave fishable parts of the lake therefore

Milky - who have you been talking to..... 2 fish out in Jan thanks very much, not none, funky's 24.12 on the 4th and Scott's 10lb common the next weekend. Nothing out since it froze I don't think (Carp anyway) although Rich P has lost the odd one that I know off, and I know of maybe 4 others lost ...

Didn't hear of anything over the weekend, going to do a round in about half an hour so will let you know on the frozen front http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It froze over the weekend though, Fri night was icey, thawed sat day again..... bit of cat ice last night, but I would guess its OK today...

Plateau???? probably 100 yrds... (further than I can get to anyway!)

Cheers U,
the plateuX at 100 yards is from which swim ?
and what time in the morn does the tackle shop open ( weekdays)

G

Nerys
17-02-2003, 13:15
It'll be 100+, but there is a lot of gravel up and down the middle of the lake at anything over 80 yrds in places... Either from swim 11 back towards the second pipes (number 30, 2 left of the non-fishing bank) or from the island, but I've not fished from those swims!!! I think Takedown was on the island the weekend, so he might know what the marks are for that one... 11 was the swim Chilly fished it from, though you can get at it from 11 down to the car park swims, also from 'the pipes' (31) poss the 'second pipes' (30) and the island..

From what I've heard, the fish, when they decide to show, are showing out towards the middle of the lake from 'the bailiff's' and thats where the last 3 fish I know of have come (thats a 26 mirror and 1 double common on the 28th Jan, and another double common on thursday) they seem to be there earlier in the day though, mostly on warmer/sunnier days that is...

then they has also been showing off to the left of the car park swims, casting back towards the island from the swim 4.... still more at range though, than in short.

At the moment they do seem to be showing in amongst the birds too, quite often it can be hard to tell if its a fish head and shouldering or a tufty diving!!!
