Any good websites you can recommend, want to make rather than buy some pike floats and drop off type indicators also some drop off indicators that sit on the back rests.

Google 'Billy's Backbiters' for drop off alarms. Best out there.

Ditto the 'Billy backbiters'!!

Don't wate your time, effort and money making a set of drop offs, these are proper piker alarms for proper pikers.

Same as - but with cord tied to rear rest - and yes they do last! - Mine since early 1980's.

Try zandavan.co.uk with the usual in front!

i have made my own drop off indicators using a ping pong ball, gardner line clip, silicon tubing, welding rod and a clip for attaching onto the bankstic. have lasted near on 15yrs so far. pic below of them in action or not as that lake never produced for me....

Gonna start a debate now but that's the wrong way to fish drop offs. They should be tight to the spool so that they "drop off". After all, the idea is that pike don't like resistance and pulling from the clip takes that away.

Your set up may as well have fox swingers or normal bobbins on it saint.

Agree - almost 'attached' to the spool! With the line as tight as can be - immediately shows both runs and drop offs.

I also have backbiters - but still not as good as the above for me.

nahh mate, they are set low as the clip is open with the line resting just inside it so it just falls out once a run develops, that way takes as well as drop backs can be shown. in over 25yrs of pike fishing i have come to the conclusion that some pike will sit there and not pull the line out of the clip if it is tight beneath the reel, whilst if you give them a bit of free slack like the drop off shows, they will take a bit of line which is indicated by the delkim. and another point, i use braid while pike fishing which more than likely makes the whole system more sensitive.

dodgy to say the least

especially with delkims with the problems they have with drop backs at times

and braid is only as sensitive as the indication system used

if a take doesnt pull the clip then there is something wrong somewhere along the line be it the clip is too tight lead set up is to light to keep te line tight enough to balance against the clip ..... etc

not saying it wont work....

out of interest are you a deads only angler? and straight lead type? dithch the plastic clip with braid as well for stainless or better yet the ptfe? ones that are out now they dont grip the braid anywhere near as badly

id imagine that to be a mare with lives

i cant think off the top of my head when ive encountered the not pulled out of the clip scenario and to me if that happened with deads id be using a tension system instead of cam actioned one

ok im not the biggest fan of delkims either prefering the roller type (optonics not these magnetic things) for front alarms

Sorry saint, I couldn't agree less. And as for fishing f/paternostered lives john (one of the reasons drop offs were designed).....that set up wouldn't work at all.

billysbackbiters.blogspot.com for back biters
zandavan.co.uk for rollovers.

Barry and Steve (Zandavan and BBB's respectivley) have just launched an adapter so they can be used together.

Blimey saint, I really did think you were better than that mate, do you honestly think telling me that you've fished for hundreds of years and name dropping will scare me into submission?

I won't mention how long I've fished for them, what I've caught or who I know. Apart from that I remember riding my moped to college every day past "tesco's" when one of the blokes you mention was fishing there, long before it was written about.

You won't admit that you're not using them as they're meant to be so I won't keep on. Plenty of kit out there that I've used wrongly in the past, I was always grateful when shown the proper way.

I knocked up this set of 4 drop off indicators for under a tenner :) Placcy solar line clips, Fox large polyballs, rib from a brolly, old catapult elastic and a Terry clip with a small bolt poked through the back:) Took about 20min to knock these up and work a treat:)

Hardware store or any DIY type place:) they are used as pipe clips but come in all different sizes:) And only about 20p each so i bought a few to fit other sized banksticks, I also knocked up some brackets so i can use them on my pod if i can't get my sticks in the ground:)
