If dead baiting for pike would you cast a bait onto a known bar or just a bit over as it slopes away? I'm fishing some large gravel pits in the Lea Valley.

Think like a predator mate, sounds stupid but has always worked for me.

where would you lie up in wait?

where do you think dinner lives?

Mine's McDonalds!

Fish do not usually sit on the top of a bar.

Just out of interest go to Google Earth and have a look at the Lea Valley gravel Pits (probably the same elsewhere in the country). My local Pike venue the Cemex 70 Acre pit and Hooks Marsh, the gravel bars all show up in detail. Good for all the Carp and Tench people.

Pike like drop off's and end of bar's where they can lie in wait to ambush, just get ur head into thinking about where the roach and bream sholes travel, then look for ambush points, particularly weed beds on the side of bars, outcrops.

If you ignore any piece of water you can miss out when piking.
The tops of bars are pukka spot imho.
