View Full Version : lense help please
just recently bought a canon EOS450D camera and wondered if anyone could help me with advise on which lense would be best for trophy shots of fish captures.
cheers,
mike.
Depends on how much money you want to spend, but saying that the kit lens is good enough for fishing. It's the light that will make or break a good shot.
If you want to splash the cash start to look at the L lens.

50mm f1.8
50mm f1.8
Not that good for flash work though as generally you are too far away from the subject, it will have nearly a 70mm focal length on a digital camera. Unless you have a very decent flash gun
nice lens in the day though. Just have to rimind other people using the camera that they have to move themselves forward and backward to zoom in :)
go for the 28-105 or 28-135 usm covers most things

Yes almost certainly, Canon wouldn't sell you a rubbish lens. You might find better lenses available at a price but test the one you have first.
"also to go with a lense which flash would you buy."
Presumably your camera has a built-in flash, you'll get reasonable results with that at fairly close range which is what you'll be doing with a lens of that focal length.
Get out there and take some practise shots then you'll know what quality to expect. If you are not happy with the results then - The EOS 450D is compatible with over 60 EF/EF-S lenses and all EX Series Speedlite flash units.
iv got the 450d with the canon 28-135 usm excellent peice of kit
many thanks for your help guys.
gonna give it a few weeks with the lense ive got first and see how i get on.
then i might treat myself to a lense, if santa is listening....
To get the best out of your camera learn how to use it out of the fully automatic setting. It's not hard at the end of the day especially now you can see the results instantly in the digital world..
Once that's mastered you may want to look at alternative lens, but until then I would not bother, you wont notice any difference..
Also mentioned above a Canon Speedlite is a great investment, you don’t just use flash at night, a great shot is all about composition and correct lighting.
