View Full Version : Liquid or Frozen at Sandhurst?
Hi All,
Booked to fish Sandhurst this weekend...does anyone know if the lake is frozen, as they are round my way (Herts)?
Hoping for a couple of warmer days to turn it all liquid again!
Thanks,
Stuart

i was going to ask the same question
hmmmm proper winter now
weather for the back end of this week is a couple of degrees warmer with rain by sunday.....i'd have thought it'd be ok....nerys will no doubt pop up with the definitive answer shortly http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Yateley was clear yesterday evening (Tuesday) so would expect Sandhurst to be the same.

The car park lake was partially frozen this morning, if this weather keeps up it may be well solid by the weekend. If I remember correctly last year Sandy was pretty much the first to freeze and the last to thaw out. It was well solid, we even caught a couple of kids riding their bikes across it

oh yeah, no matter what i say, dont give me a fag!!!!
hey folks!!!!
( http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gifsafeways doing a great deal on shiraz.... buy 2 get 1 free.... mmmm http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif)
anyways... sandy 60% frozen this morning as it goes... and that was b4 it started snowing... took the webcam with me too... so got some nice pics LOL will take it 2mrw am bailiff round too.... take some shots, and get someone (singy http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) to host so you can keep updated on the progress of the ice... would have guessed it'll be 90% by now though!!!
if this stays in the only swims non-iced will be 30 and 31 if last year is anything to go by.... but your 'bailiff-on-the-spot' will keep you updated!!!!!
this weekend for once not fishing, or not carping.... the pike rods may have to come out though!!!! But we're planning on a trip to see the blue pool match (as long as ts not frozen over there too) and then maybe a recee on some other waters Reading way http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gifhttp://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gifhttp://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Bait-bikes, now theres a thought. http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Are they allowed on sandy Nerys. http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
from looking at all the tracks around this morning on the ice, i'd say more like bait-foxes http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif at the moment!!! Cor... bet their paws got cold!!! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hows it looking for tomorrow nerys?? http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif
do you think its worth me making the journey down??
cheers,
lee...
pipe.... t'other makes me cough too much!!
well as of this morning there were 10 swims fishable....
swims 11 to 1 were frozen... thats the palace to the secret, as is swim 28. Also the corner where 20, 21, 22 are has gone, and so has the other corner, 18-16..
at the moment it is bright and sunny over there (here) (wherever) and the lake was about 20% less frozen than yesterday, so its looking good actually... as far as non-iced goes...
did I give u my number??? if so then by all means give me a shout at about 8.15am tomorrow morning, when I'll be down there bailiff'n anyway, and I'll give you a more up to date ice-cast!!! If not then pm me...
looking like its going to be a real sociable weekend at this rate http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

was thinking about the weekend but after asessing finichail requirements for the session it's not good, for me to go fishing for 2 nite's at yately is horrifc, 30 notes in the car, 20 squid for ticket plus food, fags, etc etc my god for a weekend session i'm looking at 65 bar..thats more than a winter ticket for the woolpack * cough cough *

Yateley seems to be stitched up by the Ice Lord, drove roud wraysbury this morning, that was wet, so were the surrounding waters. Then drove to the match which is pretty well frozen, Then onto the Burghfield area, Pingewood, Theale Lagoon etc are all wet with no sign of frozen water, hardly any snow has settled around here either.
So looks like my dangling is pretty much out of the question this weekend but it looks like the MAIN EVENT is on....
We have a contender in the arenaaaaaa !!!!
'in the blue corner weighing in at probably around 140 lbs is Lewis 'Lionheart' Read' and in the red corner weighing in at undisclosed figure is RAF 'Squadron Leader' Lee'.
Keep it clean boys, no below the belt stuff, now FISH !!
well its no worse on sandy at the moment...... not really a huge amount better..... but no worse at least!!
cmomcarpcmon.....
soz mate, moved this here instead as its more of a sandy bias!!
well they have been showing out in front of there, I mean, not much, but they have been around there a bit.....
maybe similar area, but different tactics??? Pipes will be a good idea too, because of that water flow through from the banana lake, that is the last part of the lake to freeze over..
Some of the iced up swims only have ice 3 rod lengths out in front, but you would still struggle to land a fish on them, I think its probably not a good idea to drag a fish head first through an ice sheet, or over it for that matter!!!! swim 11 is like that (or was this am) which is a shame, because its not a bad swim for that chuck to the middle clear water.... but honestly, there is no way you could have SAFELY landed a fish from it this morning....
the area down by 18 (iced) 19 (ok) and 20 (iced) is where the deeper water is, not talking a huge amount deeper here though... only a couple of foot.... from 19 line up on the watch tower thing (or whatever it is) looking down the road bank to your right, you should see it at 1 maybe 2 O'clock.... not far out that way is a deeper hole (think its where the old pump used to be when the lake was being worked still...) maybe does 10 ft....not fished it since this time last year actually, I had my first RMC fish from there though.... a tench!!!!!! pretty as!!! Funky's fished that swim a fair bit, and done OK from it too!!!!
the 'Bailiff's' (23-25) is still OK, though the chanel behind the island has gone..
12 - 15 are OK too..... from 12 cast at the island at 35yrds and there'll be gravel, 13, same range, out more towards the bailiffs.... well its 3rd tree on the left of the 4 on the horizon actally, but something gets lost in the translation there!!!
14 and 15 have similar range areas, though they are clearer from 12 and 13, as they are another of our regular spots....
if still frozen like this morning, then your choice will be these
31, 30, 29, 26, 27, 25, 24, 23, 19, 15, 14, 13, 12
the swans are wiping EVERYTHING out at the moment.... if you are happy back leading DO.... if not happy to back lead, then wear extra clothes because they WILL get you up in the night a few times to remove them from your lines..
FISHED FRIDAY NIGHT/SAT (KIN COLD) -5 AT 4 THIS MORNING
WHOLE LAKE IS FROZEN SOLID HADN'T THAWED BY 1PM.
RODS STUCK TO ALARMS! NIGHTMARE, NO FISH JUST PLENTY OF ICE SKATING COOTS.
DID MY ROTA SAT MORNING 2 LADS FROM ESSEX SET UP ON BAILIFFS FISHING TIL MONDAY (BEST OF LUCK)
FORECAST IS FOR MORE OF THE SAME.
hey Roy, did you do any pics in the end??
Would imagine its still frozen solid at the moment, been over to see the blue pool match, and burghfield match solid too.. blue pool kinda 50% free at the moment..
will check in the morning, but would have thought thats it for the weekend at the moment..
supposed to be warmer and rain next week, so we'll see how long it lasts though..
