Hi people just after any info on this stretch of the Wey? Average size of the Chub? Does it produce any Chub of 6lb +? Are there any Barbel at all? Any Perch present if so what sort of sizes?? Sorry for all the questions lol.
Any info appreciated, PM if preferred.....

Neil

Not the most prolific for Barbel, but a cracking stretch for winter Chub to 5lbs+. Fishes well to mashed bread. Some nice Roach too, a few Bream and plenty of Dace. I'm sure there should be some decent Perch too these days.
As I said, not the most prolific for Barbel, but there have been a few good ones out.

Plenty of Barbel upstream on the byfleet sections, so I see no reason for a few suprises. Good head of carp downstream where the canal/navigation rejoins, so again, no reason for them not to be in the Cemex section...;)

I've had carp to 17lb out, and when I was baliffing it, I heard of a 27lb common out too :)

True, dont think they are resident ones, just passing through on their way somewhere else :)

Has been a few more barbel coming out in the last season or two though.

I spent quite a bit of time poking around in a boat some years ago - all the way from the Thames up to the Cemex (then RMC) stretch. There were certainly barbel in the Cemex stretch then... Not in huge numbers, but certainly enough to make it worth fishing for them. There are certainly plenty along the Brooklands stretch, just upstream.

Can't see why they wouldn't be there now.

There were also carp along that stretch and there aren't many crays or crabs in that bit, so some bait put in on a regular basis, particularly in the downstream end of the cemex stretch might draw a few up.

crabs are a big problem in the cemex stretch :(

fished it last week , towards dusk , the bait was constantly being pulled , with no connection with any fish

Yikes, doesnt sound good :(

Are you sure they were crabs though, could have been crays or small fish, there are normally shedloads of silver fish in there that hammer your bait?

they might have been crayfish , dunno didnt connect with any , just pulls about 4 inches on a soft tip and drop back , pretty sure they wernt small fish and hard big baits

Hmmm, sound more like very wary chub bites to me, just holding the baits in their lips and dropping downstream a few inches.

Are they? News to me......bit of a sweeping statement that mate :dissapoint:

Like Mike I have never seen one there and not one angler has ever reported to me or the other bailiffs of any crabs or crays.

plenty of cray fish further up stream, so they could be moving downstream?

Could be eels - I've been plagued with them this year on the Wey. I was getting loads of little knocks and rod pulls on 12mm boilies so decided to start hitting them, resulting in the usual slimy carnage that goes with the little critters.

Definately crabs in the Wey. I,ve pulled them out of the water still clinging to the pellet on two different stretches
