Not as good nowdays I'm afraid. However if you find a few , keep quiet. If the EE's catch them then there's only one outcome, the pot.

In the last couple of years my catch rate has dropped quiet a bit. Im still catching fish but not as many and the average weight is around 6-7lb. the biggest that i had last year was only 12.5lb. I know alot of fish have gone to EE's as many are often seen walking long distances spinning, even out of season. I was speaking to an angler last year who witnessed a 30 being transferred into another river by some idiots so it "would have a better chance of survival".
Trouble was that the area that it came from was reasonably free of EE's as far as im aware. The water it was transferred to is a prime area of about 15 miles of accessable fishing where i've seen many EE's spinning!
The guy that i was speaking to also said that he has a boat and fishes all round the drains and catchwaters, where few people have access to. He's been struggling to catch anything decent (all the usual areas are fish free) and he also stated that after going through his records, his catch rate had dropped dramatically over the last 5 years
I spoke to Freddie Drink a few months ago. As i understood it, he's now into the barbel fishing on the trent as he was struggling to locate any fish in the winter and was rather brassed off about it. As you know this is unusual for Fred so it dont look good!
I'll have to visit Fred's waterhole and see if i can catch him before a skinfull:D

i always start at the duke n wellington but might move miles in a day,,i did hear it is getting harder to catch good pike on there which is a big shame i carp fish all year and love to get the pike tackle out in the winter,i also see people fishing well over depth and leaving the bait far to long so to not lose the fish, had to educate some last year that the aim was to hook em in the mouth not when they have swollowed the trace,,,would hate to have to start fishing still waters for my winter pike...

I itching to get the pike rods out now :)
I've had some good sessions down there but not on that stretch. By the time i get on there, that section has usually been hammered. Alot of areas are now poor which is a shame as it used to be great fishing and free as well!
