View Full Version : south lake
can anyone help? ive booked for a 24 hour on south lake over christmas but ive never fished or even seen the lake. can anyone give me some info about any swims and the features they have (prefferbly double swims)? ive heard matts corner produces in the winter but havent a clue where about on the lake it is. thanx guys. merry chistmas and good fishing. maca
dont worry mate all the swims have name signs. personallyi would go to fordes gap, find the bar that runs from the corner of the island down to matts corner on your right. i fished it late winter febuary time and had a blinder in there for two days. 19 fish! as for double swims the carpark swim and the first on the right from the car park is big plus there are a few others as well. havr fun it is a great runs water with the fish being lovely!
hope this helps.
p.s i found carp companys ice red and black squid to be best when i was there.
islands i didnt know there was islands, shows how much i know about the place. Are these good places to aim for or are they normally holed up out in the open water. i am praying there active on colder days. Problem with finding bars and features as i had my brand new marker rod set up nicked while i was asleep ill just have to make do with a normal rod. cheers danny ur a star ur info helps.
there are two islands on the main part of the lake and lots of little nooks and crannies round the back of the the lake. the bar im talking about is very prounouced and you can find them quite easy by leading around a bit. the times ive fished there they have been quite active even in the colder weather so you should be able to find fish quite quickly. talk to the bailiffs they are extremely helpfull especially malcom.
hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

Well after reading this... I think I may pop down myself. Any good for the days though???
hi mark. in my experieance there nights were defo better for me particularly real early morning 3:00am till 7:00am but i have caught during the day, but on the other hand a mate of mime cant catch at night there but can during the day on zig rigs! you never know till you try it so get down there! the only downside to south lake is the alcohol ban! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Sneaked down for 24 hours on Mon/Tues and had 2 out of Foards Gap 7.30pm and 11.30pm. One other fish out of the Back Bay and there were only 2 of us fishing.
Ian will be interested to know that his single Cream Cajouser over the back of the bar still works. http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
