S5is v Pro1 v G6..........discuss
I've owned a G6 and now have a Pro1 with slight preferance for the latter. How does the newer S5 compare. You can probably throw the SX10/SX1is into the mix. Thank the carp gods for Canon........

I've never owned any of the others apart from the S5IS. Not quite sure what sort of comparison you'd like. I've sure you could google and find out if there are differences in sizes but apart from that there's not much in it. It's a screen, it flips round and you can preview and look at pictures in it?

Nice one mate, heard the SX10 is a fantastic bit, (from a few friends who have them), of kit for point and click, they just use them for trips abroad and facebook rubbish etc...

confusing thread title methinks........didn't mean a comparison of the actual screens - much of a muchness - more a comparison of the actual cameras.

Ahh, I see now.

Well i'm sure you'll get many varied answers TT...

IMO the G5 and the Pro1 are pretty similar. I think they both have remotes available and probably the same zoom range too. I think the Pro1 was a bit of a breakaway from the G series giving people a camera that felt more professional. The S5IS is a different camera entirely. All the same general specs but the main difference being is that it doesn't have a remote, it's worked off a very good customisable self timer and also the zoom range is at least twice (maybe even 3 times) that of the other two. That's where it is brilliant IMO. I use my camera for a lot more than just trophy shots so that zoom is awesome. Also another thing i've thought of is that the S5IS has image stabilisation (IS) which helps a lot to eridcate shaky shots when zooming in a bit.

Like I say, others will have their own opinions but for me the S5IS is leagues ahead of it's predecessors.

As for the S10IS, this is much the same as the S5IS but has an even longer zoom distance. I've heard that at the longer end of the zoom it is slow to focus, maybe this is understandable considering the distance and the fact that it's still only a point and shoot but i'm gettig one over the next week or so and i'm sure i'll be happy with it :)

hmmmmmm .....interesting. I recently got a pro1 and first impressions are good but i could have got an S5 (maybe yours lol) for similar money but the thing that swung it for me was the remote facility on the pro1. having previously owned a G6 i am kind of used to the remote but i know lots of people don't like the remote and would probably be better with the S5's variable timer. what i really wanted was a lumix G1 but what with the credit crunch.............

It really is horses for courses...

Less zoom + Remote or more zoom + probably better components + variable self-timer

Whatever suits your style best :)

Got a SX10is a few weeks ago, still trying to get to grips with it. Results seem first class, although my one and only trophy shot so far looked a little on the soft side. But thats probably my fault. A great camera though.

A point worth mentioning is the 'L' series glass in the Pro 1. Fantastic quality & something you pay big bucks for in a DSLR.

The S5 IS is also a great camera & produces sharp pics at full zoom thanks to the IS.
