From the bit of research ive done i think there are 9 original mirrors..............6/7 commons and the fully scaled stocky 'pineapple' Can a member confirm this please

Dustbin has a plethora of scales......cant be many leathers in tyhe country covered in scales can there.......(sssssssh plums - LOL)!!!!

In carp there are two genes that control how scaley the fish is. The S gene controls scaliness and the N gene controls nakedness. These genes may be either dominant S and N or recessive s and n.
Commons have a dominant scaley gene and a recessive naked gene. If two commons breed together they may either produce 100% commons or 50% commons and 50% mirrors dependent upon the genetic make up of both parents, just because they are both commons it does not follow that they have the identical genetic make up.
Mirrors have tended to be selectively bred and breed true, that is SS genes, if two mirrors are bred they will tend to produce 100% mirrors.
Leathers and linears carry a dominant N gene and if bred with another fish with the same dominant gene you get a ratio of 4 non-developing eggs (lethal gene combination) to 6 linears to 3 commons to 2 leathers to 1 mirror.

Pretty close Garth, not that simple though. A lake full of mirrors will produce common young and over a period of time the whole lake will revert to common carp. Look at redmire.

Mirror and morrors breeding do not always produce mirrors.
