As ive only every fished rivers was wondering if there was a huge difference between different types on calm water as apposed to still water. i.e lakes

Most of your river lures will work just as well.
Surface lures and glide baits (or any lures with subtle actions affected by the flow of a river) will tend to work better on stillwaters.

Thats good news, No other spending needed. Also does size matter?

If I had to pick 1 lure to walk around a stillwater with and still feel confident in catching it would be a storm jointed thunderstick in silver scale. If I could take four more they would be the same again in firetiger, another storm lure called a suspending thunderstick for when that fish follows but stops in the marging (twitch that puppy in front of it's face ;) ). A spring dawg in any colour which is a smaller version of a bulldawg and can be fished on the average lure set up and finally, for the surface, an ozark woodchopper in firetiger.
