I may be tempted to give the Thames a go this forthcoming year, the only downside is that I dont think I am particularly near to any sections of the river, being in Sandhurst.
I wondered if there were any particular starting points around the Bray area, or anywhere else that may be a good area to look at. I could otherwise be wandering the banks for a long long time, trying to find an area that has any potential.
Any indicators would be a big help, not looking for spots or particular areas, just general stretches really.

James, a lot of that area is tied up with clubs. Can't think of anywhere much between Windsor and Maidenhead which is legally free.

As Phil says - Not much free water up there.....(except a not terribly nice bit in maidenhead).
From Sandhurst I would head to Chertsey or Shepperton if i were you...... easy to get to from Sandhurst and excellent fishing in places.
Are you after anything in particular?

boulter's lock.........always worth a dabble, that's ofcourse if you dont mind being on the footpath along with all the passer's by and traffic.
get yourself down to marlow, bourne end or cookham jd....plenty of free places to have a dabble.........marlow has more of a free area so to speak tho.....

I think it looks as though it will be Marlow. I found a bit of information on here and saw that Bray was under quite a few different clubs, so guess it would be pointless going down there trying to track down some free open sections.
I know Boulters Lock, so may give that a bash at some stage, although I know it does/can get busy down there.
Thanks, at least I have somewhere to start.

The Boulter's lock to Maidenhead bridge, Jenner's Cafe stretch is shoulder to shoulder the entire length on summer evenings, with cars on the pavement playing their stereos with the doors open... Not my idea of fun. If you're looking to fish the area I'd reccomend going into Maidenhead Bait and Tackle and asking about a Cookham Angling Club ticket, it's only £20ish and gives you a few stretches in the area.
