View Full Version : MATCH LAKE (MOAN)
Ian....as the point above.....I understand that people like small swims but on some of the lakes round Yateley, casting is restricted due to growth above.I understand not ripping the place apart, but it would be nice to be able to launch a lead without wading out, kneeling down or ,as can be seen all round the Split lake,......leaving your tackle in a tree above your head!!
I have remarked on this...(in some cases just a few twigs need trimming!) and it was made quite clear that no alterations were to be attempting by any anglers.I've never seen an angler in many swims 'cause of this problem I'm sure.
Not a moan as such....but surely it's safer not to leave line and hooks etc...in the trees.

Got to agree with you Ian. The beauty of fishing is in part the surroundings your in. I can never understand why people want to rape the bankside instead of getting there feet wet for a cast!
Paul......."rape the bankside"'s a bit harsh!! Not all of us want to go paddling around for a cast,or lug around waders on the offchance that branches overhang the swim! Getting my feet wet for a cast is not my idea of a worthy pastime on a freezing winter's day!! It really is a case of crerating a small tunnel directly above the swim,or rather above the 'casting area'. Even the smallest twig'll grab the old tackle on the way through,(ooer!),so it's only a case of trimming it up. Just enough to overhead a 12ft'er with 'x' amount of trailing line is all that's needed.

Smarts you`re are probably right it is a bit harsh. I really must get off my high horse on this subject. I`m a bit strange really you see i love the cramped overgrown swims! Couple of points, i find tying bankside back with string helps ( obviously not feasable 10 foot above you`re head! ) and if you take a barrow with you just throw the waders on top.
Have a good year on the Match the lake is very dear to me.
All the best Paul Harris
Have you got any tips for us paul as i know a few people on this website will be fishing it this season!
Cheers mate!

Jimbo, it would be difficult for me to advise anyone on how to fish the Match as i haven`t fished it for 5 years and it was completely different each year. I found the old classic ploys worked on there like the obvious island margins, fishing into the teeth of the wind ( especialy the car park bay and the top bay).Favourite swims were stumps,beach,3rd island,gravelly,48`s,party and canopy. Hope that`s of some use. May Thompsons, Dropscale or Scaley come and bite you this year.
Take care Paul Harris.
Paul,
I apologise if my reply appeared a bit brutal!...(just re-read it).
I agree with what you say and too, like overgrown *fishy* areas, and always like features to fish to.I was,in fact, talking about the Split lake as I jumped on this Match Lake post....whoops!
