hi all,

need some of the above (not for pike but thought i would get the best answer here). they are sized 1-4. i cant work out, or find out which way. ie which is bigger 1 or 4? does any one have any of them lying about or know the rough sizes of them?

thanks

Tim

cheers anyway

going to be using them for making adjustable zig rigs, are they massive, or tiny?!

Three inches long, tapered body, probably just under an inch at the most bulbous point.

All you need now is someone with a different one to tell you how big theres are and you can work out which way the numbering works :D

cheers ben, might just get the threes then as they seem the right ish sort of size!

If you are using them for adjustable zigs be aware they are not really that suitable for deep water. I have stood next to someone casting one out on a deep lake and what came back was a crumpled mess. Having said that, I can't really say what the cut-off between deep and not deep is.

Agreed number 2's all day long any bigger increases the spook factor.

cheers. water is max of 12ft deep. its more to be able to more them dependent on what the fish are upto without having to constantly recast.

Yep number 2s should do.

No 1 is the smallest and 4 the largest.

Think thay suffer after about 15 ft, very good for zigs imo

Ive used 2s and 3s in 30ft of water no problems at all.

Wont be long til this method is scrutinised.

Blimmy, every time ive gone over 18 thay have caved in, happened about 5 times

Taking a slight twist on this thread I was wondering what you boys feel about the sub floats being clear plastic? Being as they are filled with air, once under water they reflect all the light around them turning into something like shiny chromium balls! This is something that will decrease with depth but for shallower water I paint my ones as I feel even a dull visible object will have less of a spook factor than a big silver bubble!

Any thoughts?

Don't know if they still make them, but Fox do a predator sub float that is made from dull brown foam, does the job nicely...

no changed them to clear plastic now as well hippy

And the clear plastic Fox floats seem to explode if cast when cold.

Dontr know if drennan still do the sub floats in a matt green tint or brown matt tint but thay use to, sa for reflecting possible in shallowis clear water, could put matt varnish on maybe, Fox do a mat clear surfice float which i think could be used as a sub float

Tim1, a varnish will not alter the effect I am talking about, that is why I paint them. What I mean is, although they are clear plastic out of the water, once submerged, the air inside acts as a mirror and reflects out all the light that hits it. So, far from being invisible, which is probably the idea, they become very visible indeed, a bit like a silver christmas bauble!
If you can imagine seeing bubbles on the bottom or in the weed you see them as silver blobs and thats just how the 'clear' sub floats will look to a fish.

Like i said you could get matt tintted sub floats by drennan, might be still available, pike anglers sometimes use matt black sub floats, as the idea is to catch the carp at a depth thay are at with say a 4 ft hook length from the float would it be much of a problem if so try the black floats.

zinga

Yes I think you can get the black ones, anyway as I have said, I usually paint mine to something that will blend in to the suroundings I am using it in.

Stll, I have always been a bit surprised that sub floats are sold 'clear' as that is not what they will be onced submerged!

Thinking back i use to paint the bottom of my pike floats grey to try and blend in with the sky, probably made no difference but who knows
