View Full Version : Plans for the North
being on the waiting list for the Yately syndicate and seeing one lake packed to the rafters and the other (nicer lake IMO) completely devoid of anglers for most of the time. i was wodering what stock is left in there and also what the plans are to get the anglers back on this historic lake.
Singy
pics of some of the current residents are on the that aint no bream site, see me profile. few more to go in over the current week as well. personally i think the north is prime to be left as a low stock venue maybe a add a couple of fish with potential, and remove some of the weed etc. would hate to see it rammed with fish and cut back as beautiful but very much doubt that would happen.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ian and viv...
keep it low stock, play about with the fish levels, stock it with your lovely sutton babys ONLY and make it even better than it once was...
Great site mate.
Agreed it should be low stock. Always has been and always should be. But it does seem to need some new stock of quality fish. Sure the boys know what they are doing. Are there plans to reduce the weed for next season?
The main thing that concerns me is as a future syndicate angler, and only being able to fish weekends that a swim of choice on the CP is virtually impossible to come by late on a Friday evening. What other species are living in the North?

But you gotta cope with it if you takes your choiuce and pays your money -
dont worry mate - can always get a swim after december - wink

Just being there eh? http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
On my first visit to Yately I fell in love with the North Lew. just lovely. It would be nice if the pressure was spread out a bit more

It is a very pretty lake - oh - we still lament the loss of Baz....http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif the Sutton babies are in keeping with the tradition - timimg of the work will be the new year i understand....

I believe there are no carp in there at all http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
seriously, probably around 30 fish, mostly small and introduced from the river, a few 20+ commons, a few 20+ mirrors, crinkle 30+, pit ten fish 30ish, jensons 30ish.
and if she's still in there scale on the shoulder upper 30.
Ok I haven't hooked a carp yet, had double tench, bream and a catfish, the lake is absolutely stunning, in my selfish opinion the most that needs to be done is remove the small carp and bream, add a few sutton babies for the long term and if possible a couple of established lumps, if possible reduce weed levels, good job I've been on my own most of the year as at the weeds worst only three fishable swims, but then I have no fishery management qualifications so I am sure to be put right. It would be great with say a dozen of the originals and a few stockies to restore its former glory.
I stand to be corrected.
by the way, I love this lake
see you down there on day mate.

you cant have it all....low stocked lake =weed ,weed and more weed...so if you dont want weed then stock it up or get solid

I agree, however, speaking to others who have fished it before me, the weed is much thicker than previous years, with more fish in the pond now. at the end of august the weed covered 95% of the surface
It was not only 95% of the surface. That weed went from the lake bed to the surface. Weeds a funny old thing. It will probably choke itself out for next season and there will be hardly any http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif but then again, probably not.
It will be nice to hear from Ian on this one and get the official angle on any plans RMC have

Spent three years of my life after Baz. Didn't get him but The North is an absolute stunning lake. The atmosphere when you were on it you could cut with a knife. Definately the greatest lake i have ever fished and this includes the Car Park (doesn't compare, the fish bloody do though!). As for the stock, you have Scale on the Shoulder, last caught by Rick Harrison at 39lb 10oz on 28th August 2000. Crinkle comes next and she's a mid to upper thirty, last caught at the back end of last year by Little Jon i believe. Jensen is the next one last caught by Simon Croft at 29lb 10oz on 15th October 2000. Then you have The Pit 10 fish, last out i believe by myself at 28lb 8oz September 12th 2001. Then comes The Pretty one which Donc had this year (26lb mate?). The Big Common Little Jon had at 25lb 8oz on 14th June 2001. A mirror we call The Bay Fish (stunner!) Brumster had at 25lb 8oz summer 2001. The old Pad Lake 26 is around 22-23 now. There are possibly another couple of low twenty mirrors (caught so infrequently it's hard to tell). The Fully scaled is a low twenty. The Split Lake common is approaching mid-twenty. There are the original three Tels (History fish, HAVE to be left in there). Little Tel i caught 11th August 1999 at 16lb and to our knowledge hasn't been out since. William (or scruffy) Tel got caught the most out of the Tels while i was on the lake but still didn't trip up often. Probably an upper double. Aqua Tel like Little Tel only tripped up once while i fished the lake caught by Mark Hunter at 21lb, February 2000. Then there are the commons. How many is a job to know but probably somewhere around 15 to 20 nowadays ranging from a little one (single figure fish!) to the one that grew the best that we called The Bite Mark Common (made 21lb but actually dropped a little in Bazils final year).
What memories, what a place.
Be Lucky,
Paul.

Paul, cheers for that definitive list of weights and captures, I wasn't far out then.
Hopefully 'Scale' is still alive, although it hasn't been seen this season or spring, its a big fish to lose, but then the weed is everywhere. I think the pretty fish was around 28lb 8oz when donc had it this year
Pukka list - i agree
lets hope scale is still about - though - with the absence of any sighting things dont look good...... http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif
We can but hope.....we van but hope

There is alot more fish in there than I thought. A good case for doing f all other than a bit of weed management.

Not enough to keep any of the syndicate (bar 2 or 3 members) on there though......[sad]
Difficult decisions to be made - glad its not me maiking em in all honesty!!!!

still would not sort out the pressure on the carpark, not many anglers will walk past a water with 6 forties and 3 thirties, in my opinion the north still needs a target forty to go for, thirty pound fish are two a penny round yateley area no body will pay £400 to fish a water with a couple of thirties in , this is why the carpark received so much pressure this year, you have a pucka water as the north, sitting doing nothing, reminds me of the copse (pucka water, WASTED) why did the fish in there need to be removed??? nothing was ever done with it .
Ill probably be casting a line in there quite alot next season as a weekend angler....
Im sure lewis will not mind me doubling up with him though...
Be gentle with me Raf........ http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
There is a case for patience though. Are the fish in there putting weight on, even without the angler's bait going in?
Agreed a target 40 would bump up the amount of anglers on there and increase the amount of bait going in, which should improve the weights across the board. And in turn attract more anglers and more bait
Any idea where RMC would get such a fish from?
All would be sorted if scale on the shoulder came out at mid 40. You never know http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
tend to agree brummie although still never really liked the thought of having to stock a large fish rather then growing one. but i suppose that is better as a way to make the fishery commericially viable, which no doubt they have to do, then stocking with loads of fish and turning into another pads.
I dont think RMC's intention is to make it another Pads..
The idea was to remove the bream/tench/etc, get rid of the none growing residents and then 'suplliment' the existing stocks with some of the excellent Sutton little uns....
Was some talk of the Dunginess bigguns going in - but they need tocatch em first - and one is definately dodgy (according to locals that know).....
I think th e plan is a good one - as Baz was a Sutton herself.....
not 100% about the dungie fish - but thats a decision for the management
Tis about all i know gents.....

even a couple of young high thirties may do it, then grow them on to forty plus, the north is well rich , hopefully rmc will have some sort of stock pond, but untill the north is an active fishery you basically have a fifty man syndicate, that`s not including gold card members or baliffs, which would put it nearer 60 possible members, but i thought rmc would of had a plan for the north last year but nothing happened, as i seem to recall a debate this time last year, regarding the north, sad state of affairs for a fishery with so much history,
i know this does not bear thinking about but what happens when the carpark detoriates, do rmc just leave it as they did the north??
'I dont think RMC's intention is to make it another Pads..'
yup tend to agree which is why i reckon your suggested plan seems most likely to tally with managements as a way of breathing life back into the fishery.
questionable fish would be a worry though but can't see rmc ever making that mistake.

Why dont they join it to the car park lake , then you would have a pukka lake with lots of good fish and plenty of options.Im sure the fish would love it and would still retain its difficulty level with out any extra problems...Think about it ...and it would give a lot more people a chance to catch a true kipper!!!!!! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
A suggestion made last year (as you no doubt recall) that proved less than popular with the syndicate members....
ultimately the choice isnt ours - but you want the CP bigguns to escape into the snags and islands of the north - a sure way of making sure they arent in the pukka condition they are now......

why noooooooooooooooooo are you scared it will be hard or just cant handle every one after your quarry .... i cant see any harm but only good............yyyyyeeeeesssssssss...might get a swim.......more space ,more growth ,and a longer future .....otherwise leave and wait for the stock to grow and dont be so impatient..................aaaahhhhhhhhh http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Read my post and then argue that again..
imagine the might 'Single' doing her customery 60yrd dash - this time put islands and trees and snags all over the place - that is the difference.....
Shouldnt we be calling you Rodney??????
KLewless
on the contrary, although don't actually fish there at the mo, am a big fan of waters with some challenge to them and hope to fish some more tricky ones in the future. my objections are mainly based on the history of the place and massive risk to fish of tampering in such a major way.

I wasnt here last year ( i expect youve been logged on all that time) .........and hes got chainsaws and all that mallarchy so what you gotta say now .......what other angle are you gonna come up with now..... pros for would far beat pros against.....
I would prefer to leave them as they are at the moment for sure, but then I just thought I dont fish there so I should keep my gob shut - LOL
pros for: bigger more varied lake. lower ratio of fish to water space.
cons: half the fish dead due to stress of works, history gone.
why change something, the car park, that is working so well?? asking for trouble.
the history of the car park is not just in the past and consigned to our memories. it's ongoing.
in principle the idea has merit but would wait for this particular chapter in carping history to end before starting a new one.
rmc are basically making nothing out of the north at then moment... all bar 2 or 3 join for the cp.
stock with an ammount of the best looking "shooters" from the sutton stock. leave to prosper for a couple of years.. thin them down... thin them down...
they are fast growing.. young.. and stunning looking fish. the water could easierly hold 50 30s... maybe with 10 40s ????
history in the making...
do it the right way rmc... you know it makes sense !!!!
see what you have done now lewis......lol
Nice post plums....sensible.....for a change...;)

well said ....what extra harm can come to the fish by giving them more space ...none the waters the same , digging wont affect them ,nor will snag clearance...they might even grow a bit bigger and get caught less eventually.... any way lewis an co if you want to retain a future for the yatelely fish you should be aiming to breed from the original stock of fish you have rather than adding new potential dangers .. I see more of a danger to these fish by repeatedly stocking with new fish from different sources than by extending the two lakes to become one..... my vote would be for it ... and also to create an onsite breeding program.... http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
was feeling rather tense yesterday lu, hense a few of my posts... but feeling in a rather good mood today after "that" meeting...
gotta good vibe man..yeah.. gonna do it my way.. the right way !!

Cat amongst the pigeons, oh Ian you are a one !
Although we haven't had the official RMC line in black and white, I know you have the waters best interest at heart and will progress the future of the water as the 'voices of reason' (you know who you are http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif) within this thread and the others that preceed it have mentioned.
Heres hoping !
Will it be made public knowledge Ian?
Those that arent aware of the previous thread should do a search last year on a thread about the north lake..............about 8 / 9 months ago now i believe..... a number of options set out - giving forum members the chance for feedback - thread finished with aforementioned 'policy' statement - re suttons, removal of other species (bream) reduce to total biomass and improve growth - and possibility of Dunge fish......

Forgot one, don't know how! In 1999 a high profile angler added a little mirror in from the river (should have known better). It was a little two tone football shaped fish which was caught from the lake quite quickly at 12lb. Rick Harrison, Mark Rosewell and i think John Beecher had it that year but it soon learned off the North Lake fish to be carefull and only slipped up a few times after that. I remember Fudgey having it and i'm pretty sure it was his first fish, mid double? from the islands swim. Its last capture that i know was when Munchkin had it just over 20lb, Main works in Bazils final year. Its name spookily enough "The River Fish".
Would i be right in saying that scale on the shoulder is a very timid fish and does not like coming into the margins and often goes on the missing list for ages ???
Jonmiller:- i told you to be quite or i'll set apples on you...
I seem to remember Fudgie taking an upper double (17ish?) common that he and Si called 'orsal (missing the first part of its dorsal!) a couple of seasons back. http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif
hope thay donot nock them into 1 http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif
