View Full Version : River Cherwell
Does anyone on here fish it. It's on my doorstep and I have a licence to fish bits of it, but don't know where to start. Any pointers would be appreciated.
I'll walk it when it goes down as is clear in the spring, but pointers as areas to consider now would be appreciated.
Thanks

A certain Barbel web site has a long running Cherwell thread on its river reports section if this helps

I used to live in oxon, my brother and i used to have some good chub and perch around Islip!! As we went closer to oxford we used to have problems with crays!! Used to love the cherwell because it was so under fished!!!

I don't think it matters where you fish round here - Crays have taken up residence everywhere - I've even caught them in River Ray near M40

have a word in j and k mate
Ive fished the Cherwell for 15 odd years, hard as nails for Barbel these days, not alot left due to one thing or another, if you do locate them they are catchable.
Some sizeable Chub and Perch to be had.....like lancelot said, go into J&K and have a word, they are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Hi i fish the cherwell used to fish it round the marston area a few years ago.But i moved to kidlington and i fish their stretch now which is not too bad but still a fair few cray fish around.Plus the better swims are a long walk but with a kitchen sink job is hard work. Not to many barbel around now but plenty of small chub and roach perch but it's getting to know the water which takes a bit of knowing.
Mark, did you get amongst the carp in the marston stretch?
Love the avatar by the way........left side, or right side of the london road?

No never got the carp going how far down where they from the marston ferry road?
I was the left side what great days there where:clap:
I used to park in the street near the cricket pavillion, wander down to the bridge in the parks. Carp all along that stretch, some nice ones too. Take a wander when it gets warmer, theyre not too hard to find!
Great days indeed, never been the same since they went to the kas, the manor was such a fortress! must have been so intimidating for the opposition. Remember the big screen in the cuckoo lane? Always made me laugh, if the oppostion shot wide, an "ahhhh" would up flash up! I miss the manor!

Yeah back to the manor what great days don't think will ever see them again. We done Man u, Newcastle,Arsenal to stay up and just loads of great memorys.
I'm in Banbury and have often considered fishing the Cherwell but have never heard good reports of people on the bank. Does anyone know whats in the Banbury area? I don't fish too often but really want to have a go for some decent Chub.
Cheers
