View Full Version : The River Thames Carp Trip Auction
We are pleased to announce this wonderful gesture from TCarper (Mark Casper).
Other pictures are available to see on the Whats Happening 2009 Thread
As all of you will already know, I very recently spent 6 weeks in hospital after being diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called Phaeocromocytoma. Never been ill before, never been in hospital, just out of the blue I blacked out one day. Very very luckily for me after thousands of tests eventually i was given the news that I had been praying for, my tumour is benign. (If there is someone up there thank you)
While I was in hospital I became good pals with a fella in the bed opposite me. He wasn’t much older than me and because we worked in the same industry and were cooped up together 24-7 we became friends. Alfie had in the recent past been diagnosed with throat cancer but although knowing eventually it would get him he was remarkably strong for his wife and young family and swore that the 2 years he could have left would not be wasted, not a second. Within 2 weeks further tests had revealed that the cancer had spread badly and that Alfie could just have just a week to live. Distraught at how he would tell his young family, he kept himself together with strength and the help of the Macmillan nurses. Alfie died a while ago now, through him I saw the most wonderful job that these truly wonderful people do. The admiration I have for them is unrivalled, which is why I made this offer to Stoney and friends who themselves do wonders for the Macmillan nurses through all your fundraising, but you don’t need telling that.
Enough of that, what will you get if you win the auction? 48 hrs fishing on the River Thames in one of two spots

Both swims will be baited very heavily leading up to the trip, all bait for the trip along with all terminal tackle leads etc that you'll need will be provided. I'll sort any permissions you'll need. If your rods arnt up to 4-5 oz leads then i can also lend you some of mine suitable for the trip. So basically all you will have to bring if you want to is your bivvy and your bed, buzzers, rod licences and reels.
Think how good a cause it is and how much the knowledge of the whereabouts, of those long dark scaley river ones could stand you in good stead in the future. You will be forced to sign the official secrets act LOL, but there will be nothing to stop you returning to the spots in the future with your own mates.
Thats gotta be worth a good few quid for a very good cause lads.
The Auction will commence: Details to follow, with plenty of warning.
Only bids on this thread please.
A message from TCarper:
Just a couple of other things i should probably mention for anyone intrested in going.
Really i should mention about boat use as ive spoken in other threads about using a boat on the Thames.
I will have a boat with me for the trip, it is necessary really, but for safety reasons, the winner wont be setting foot in it. There wont be any reason for you to at all. I will be there as your gillie, and general slave (LOL) for the 48 hours. Im saying this now so that all interested understand that it wont be anything personal to the individual winner of the auction, it counts for all, no matter if you use a boat in france, or on your syndi lake.
Thames is a nasty place to be in a little boat, often when i go out to bait up, i will have to hold my self in the flow, waiting for a gap in the mahoosive sea going ships, to paddle back. These can give off a wake that can turn a bic over, unless you know exactly what your doing. Then theres the nutters in speedboats who wait till 3am and for me to be out rebaiting in the boat, to bring out their James Bond speedboats. To avoid the speed limits and give them a good thrash. I had one bloke one night come past me at what must have been 80mph+, would'nt have stood a chance in the dead of night.
Far safer all round to say, no one will be going in the boat except me LOL
All rods can be cast, there are clip marks worked out on the bank for each spot. So you'll be doing all your own thing, and 99.9% of the time fish are landed from the bank.
I can promise all intrested now, who ever wins is going to have the time of their lives.
Everysingle person who has come to the river with me has LOVED it, even mates who have lake fished for 30 years and caught everything, love the different aspect of Thames carping.
You'll have a long back scaley chunk with no name i tell thee LOL
On your marks, get set Gooooooooooooooooooooo
Only bids please. anything else will be deleted.
Will close at 2200hrs Wed 11 March 2009
