I wonder if anyone out there can help me out on this. I have been invited to fish a stretch of the Bristol Avon tomorrow for Roach and have taken up the offer. I've been to the supermarket to buy a few loafs of bread and I wondered if anyone out there thought it was worthwhile adding a few flavours, etc after I have liquidised it... ?

I was thinking either Tumeric or Garlic... am I going in the right direction ?

This is not just for tomorrow - I am planning a few trips over winter to the Hants. Avon, so all replies gratefully received...

Cheers,

Bill.

Turmeric is the bizz when it comes to Roach, don't forget the hemp, you will only need a couple of pints. Try open end feeder with hemp in the feeder plugged with an explosive type ground bait. If you are a stick float man punched bread, with turmeric thumnail sized balls of liquidized bread as groundbait. Little & often is the key, don't overfeed the swim. If feeder fishing 5 quick consecutive casts in the same spot first. Be careful with the terminal tackle as this method will take chub & barbel as well. If you want to just target mainly roach try hemp & caster on the stick float, I can't guarentee you wont hook a barbel though, I always seem to do when fishing for roach. If you want to add colour to the liquidized bread it has to be red.

Thanks for the advice Tony. I'll add a bit of Tumeric to my liquidised bread then. I also went and bought some ground/crushed hemp earlier (I tried crushing some myself, but that takes for ever !!), so that should give it an explotion... I've got some pre-cooked hemp in the freezer too, so better get that out now so it defrosts for the morning.

I'll be taking a trotting rod and quivertip, as I've never seen the river before and don't know what to expect !

It'll be a nice early start so we can get plenty of fishing in whilst it's light... probably stay for an hour or two into dark, as the roach often start feeding at dusk - so I've heard !

Thanks again.

Just in case it is flooded Bill, take a little washing up liquid (to bring up the lobs) with you because a good Lob in the slack margins in a flood works too. Have a look on the lawn tonight for a few lobs just in case. Once again the lobs will take chub and barbel as you probably already know.

It just so happens that I have a wormery (sp) in the garden /images/forum/icons/smile.gif I'll have a dig in the morning... What does the washing-up liquid do then ? I've never heard of that before !

By all accounts the river is in flood, but that's when it fishes - I hope !!

A little tip here for the worms if you ever get stuck, and I know you wont believe me, lol but it does work honest. Get a long bankstick if the ground is moist and at the moment it is and shove it into the ground about six inches, i use a storm rod to do this. Then wobble it around for a few minutes, you will find that the worms crawl out of the ground for you.

If you mix a little washing up liquid with water and pour it onto the ground where there are worm casts up they pop. I think it irritates their skin or something. It has always worked for me Bill. Better that digging 10 foot holes for the things.

Now why wouldn't I believe you Andy ? You don't seem like the type that would play pranks /images/forum/icons/smile.gif Do I need a flute to charm them too ?

I'll leave your suggestion as a last resort, incase my wormery doesn't produce anything. I've only had it two months, and haven't yet checked it !

It really does work. I was bored one day and I spose I was playing around with the bankstick while watching the water for signs of fish. When I looked down I was amazed at how many worms were there. lol

If you use washing-up liquid to bring the worms to the surface, dont forget to wash them with clean water, as they will end up a sticky mess if you dont. Better still go out at night for half an hour with a torch and snitch some worms, with all the rain we have had it's easy.

Billy if you are taking maggots then try and get hold of some of Archie Braddocks Pineapple flavour to put on them.I,ve had some good results using it.
