View Full Version : Horton Update?
How is the Church fishing at the moment, have the fish shut up shop for the winter yet?
Half term is coming up, and my time is running out!
LOL, I would gues it already has matey! Dont know what happens, as with water so deep, you would have thought it would retain its tempurature for longer, and therefore fish later into winter, but ive seen it shut up several year on the trot, within a week or two of October - Wierd!
same thing happens on Harefield as well usually come end September it shuts up shop, usually...
Think it might be due to the angle or arc of the sun and penetration to the water, i.e. light levels...

it's strange tho,
because waters over here (deep waters) start fishing well from Sept on, right trough winter.
very strange, could it be angling presure (on lakes like Horton??).

The fish indeed have shut up shop for the winter,
You see the shop round the sorner is more popular and business in the winter is a little slower than in the summer so not profitable to stay open.
I spoke to shoulders, the owner of the shop,
who gave the following statement,
"dont worry my camo'ed friends, we will return to business before you know it, We may open for the odd day in the winter to keep your appetites dampened however service will restore full time in the new season, Rgds Mr Shoulders"

Well done Hippy.
Is this your first season on Horton?
Whats your impression of the place?
<font color="red"> y </font color> <font color="white"> e </font color> <font color="red">a </font color> <font color="white">h </font color> http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Yep, first season on the place, and my first two fish. Also lost one and had an 11Ib bream. Am totally in love with the place the fish are stunning, the lake is wonderful, and the challenge of catching fish that I've been reading about in the books and mags for so long is awe inspiring.
As for the facilities, well................... http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Have to say as well, the bailiffs and regulars have been great, really makes the fishing.
Roll on next summer, and another residential sessio at Horton.
How did firework night go? Did Starman go naked or was it to cold.
i would love to see that. hes mental

was a great night as they all are up at Horton.
wicked fireworks
great food
good bunch of lads and a lass or two
quality complex
not sure if Barry's head may have a large whole in it now though, Oh did i laugh http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
LOL, barry didnt even flinch - LOL
The funniest thing of the night though was when Starman sat on a small three legged table, and it collapsed leaving him flat on his back. I laughed that much it hurt - lolololol
No firework mishaps then.............. http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Like I said lew Barry didnt even flinch http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
£300 of firework = 18 freworks
They were awesome
Lewis...
Nope!!!!! but the patio took a right hammering....
It was the 300 round firework that you were supposed to stand 25metres away from that got most people , but then most people would have been hard pushed to be 2.5 metres away in the first place...
Kinda added to it really Lewis, ducking and diving for cover on the steps.....
Good fun though.... even though I think you are all mad as hatters (in the nicest possible way)
was the trout on the BBQ *sourced* locally.... very nice it was.... when starry passed by the wayside, sam took over the culinary delights.... fine job there young man, fine job!!

11 fish in the last month (november) not that bad for a lake that's no good in winter!!! (they keep telling).
Friday morning was the last one (a upper twenty).
even hippy caught a 20lb+ pike on the sunday morning http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif nice fish mate, hope the pics are good http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Has been very mild though. Good angling to those who caught. Would be interested to know how many originals?

just looked trough the catch book (did not look at the nam of the fish).
Think its almost all stockies Garth, and my pet pike!
As a matter of interest what is the biggest stockie in Horton now...?
A couple over 30 now mate, so not really stockies anymore.

Fish in Horton aren't your average kinda fish mate,
The stockies could do anything,
They could be record breakers or they could stop as you say at mid 30,
It's a stunning place mate capable of pretty much anything.
it will do a 50 one day i reckon, although i would think it will be a different fish to the 2 big old warriors in there now, Reckon they may be just about maxed out.
Any news on if 'Siltex' is still going to be put in the lake to help break down that black smelly decaying XXXX that is laying on the bottom of the lake in some areas especially in front of 'one up' and 'the scooter' ?
One to watch lads - Merlin. Stunner, and a grower. Mid 40 for sure I reckon!
Saw the picture that Paul Radford had, that fish truely is stunning!! What is it's growth rate? Paul had it at mid 20 didn't he?
In my last year (99) on there the fish was caught for the first at 17lb I think. She is now around 28lb I believe. Nice steady growth rate. 30lb next year, and in four years maybe a lot bigger! I hope so, as she is a cracker!
Without doubt. One that I hope to catch when my number comes in......be nice if that coincided with her being 40! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Don't forget about UNO, I had her twice once at 16 and then 18mths later at 22. Martin Allerton had her at the back end of last season at 28lb+, looking awesome.
I think those stockies will grow and grow.
Saw a pic today in Carpworld of the Peach when Matty caught her. What happened to her tail, half of it is missing? (Pg 58 in the Mailine Whats occurring)

Gary had Uno this season, 27ish I believe, meant to have been the ruck of his life, he thought it was the shouldered one, good looking fish as well.
I've got 10p for that pop up I destroyed cashie baby, if you want it http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
She Peach used to be very lively on the bank. When I had her, she went mad, and it was all I could do to hold on to her.
I think she damaged it flapping on the mat earlier this year. Not the anglers fault.
Sorry mate, i wasn't suggesting it was down to bad handling. Just that it was sad to she her damaged. I know she used to ruck on the bank, she beat Tony up a couple of times. Majestic fish.
Cash
Certainly was.
RIP old girl.
sorry garth you just http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif me
has she died then?
Yes Stone she died a few weeks ago. Totally unrelated to the tail damage. She was seen in the edge, and netted out where she was given a salt bath. She swam off strongly when released, but died a week or so later.
I reckon she was around 30 years old. She was originally an old long lake fish At Longfield, but was moved to the road lake in the mid 80's at around 14lb. She lived there until moved to Horton in 1990, when she was an upper double.
Lovely old carp, and will be greatly missed. Shes gone to say hello to Jack and the boys.
