The lake I will be fishing in France contains Sturgeon.
How do you catch them?
Do they grow big in France?

Neil,
If they are the same as the Boat Pool Fish, they come out on fishmeal boilies.

Neil,

I fished a lake in northern France last year. Thought there might be tench or carp in the lake. Was I Surprised when after being broken up 3 times I finally managed to land a fish. A 12lB Sturgeon. I was waggler fishing on 4 lb line using sweetcorn.

This was by no means a big fish just the largest I could land using the gear I had with me!

When Hooked, they like to hug the bottom, however when u do get then to the surface they have a habit of " tail walking".

Guess you should treat them as over sized barbel!! but use carp gear.

Hope this helps

Sturgeon can grow to massive sizes, I think if you are going to target this fish, on of the most ancient in Europe you need to assess the size of the fish in that water. Carp gear in most cases will be fine with fish up to 40lb but if there are bigger ones in the water the tackle will need to be stepped up..... I don't know what the guys use for the large cats when fishing aboroad but something on those lines may be more appropriate.

When i went on a guided catfishing trip last year the tackle we used surprised me! 225lb kevlar hooklinks!! 85lb braided mainline and i think 3/0 hooks!! not exactlly light gear but it certainly helped with a few of the fish i hooked!!

They do love fishmeals or luncheon meat.
If you are going to fish with bolies then tie a small hair and have the bait tight to the hook shank.
They are little sids for just picking up the bait.
float fish meat over very oily pellets and you wont go far wrong
