I was lucky enough to be asked to review Aqua's Ultra sleeping bag, which was an amazing stroke of luck, actually, as I was considering getting a new sleeping bag for this winter coming.
The Ultra is a 'mummy' style bag, and I've looked at these before and have been a bit sceptical as in how practical they are for fishing, especially in trying to exit the bag quick enough in the rare occurrence of a take - for me anyway! This is something I will be looking at over the month or so as I start to use the bag.
My first impressions are very good. The Ultra comes in a stuff sack which looks very generous, and is a little bigger than the size of a football. Normally, 4-5 season rated bags are very bulky and heavy but this wasn't much heavier than the Big Snooze I currently own which is very impressive. The outer is made from rip-stop nylon, and as I'm quite accident prone I'm sure this feature will come in handy! The Ultra is also of very generous proportions, which is something that can't be said about a lot of mummy style bags. There is a nice thick removable fleece lining that is secured by Velcro all around, and this is very warm to the touch and looks of superb quality. I can imagine that during a cold winter session it would be very hard to leave the comfort of this plush bag! The bag can be secured to your bedchair top and bottom with clips on an elasticated cord to stop the bag getting wet and muddy in the event of a fast exit.
Overall, first impressions are very favourable, and once the bag has been out for a few sessions I'll report back on how I got on with the single centre zip, and I'll give good and bads points during use. Knowing Aqua's superb reputation for quality, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
