After pre-baiting a swim early morning, we arrived back in the swim around 2.30pm, a lot later than we anticipated. A paste bait was quietly lowered into position and I watched with anticipation as my brother's rod received almost immediate attention. My brother, by the way, is known as Mill 1, a new member this season.
A few moments later, his Avon rod hooped round and I thought at first he was into one of the Fishers Green double-figure barbel, but to my amazement down river I caught sight of what he had just hooked and said "For Christ's sake don't lose this fish, it's a huge chub!"
I walked down below the fish as I knew he was going to struggle in the flow, and slowly moved the landing net into position and let the river take her into the net for me. As I lifted her from the water, I was certain the fish was going to be well over 8lbs. Her length was approximately 24 inches, and after weighing her a number of times on new Fox digital scales, we finally agreed on 7lbs 15oz.
I just want to say thanks to all that help to make Fisher's Green such a great venue
