Day Ticket 20 for Newcomer to Angling | General Carp Fishing
My Day At Nellbridge
Recently, I took a trip to a local day ticket water with a friend to introduce him to carp fishing and with the aim of catching him a 20 pounder. The lake is only an acre big and boasts around 100 carp averaging 12 - 15lb. On arival, there was only 1 other peson on the lake who was in one of the more prolific swims on the lake, but was blaring his radio full volume in his swim so Dan and I set up on the opposite side of the lake having seen some fish crash in the centre of the lake. We chose swims that were close together and started a baiting campaign. I was set up in a swim to the right of Dan so I spodded between our two swims so that I could fish on top of the bait and Dan could fish a rod slightly off it so the idea was he wouldn't catch as many but he would pick up the bigger fish, hopefully a 20.
The spod mix consisted of 10 mil source boilies, groundbait to stoge up the mix to reduce loss of mix in flight, sweetcorn and some liquid attractant. We both fished an 8 inch coated braid hookling tied in knotless knot style, a size 8 korda wide gape b hook, a couple of korda sinkers and an anti tangle sleeve. The hookbait was a 10 mil source boilie topped off with a piece of plastic corn making it slow sinking.
In The end, Dan caught 3 fish at weights of 10lb, 10lb 8oz and 20lb 8oz, his new PB whereas I had 5 fish at weights of 10lb, 10lb 8oz, 15lb, 15lb 8oz and 18lb 8oz. All our goals had been achieved. What a days angling!
