Just come back from my third trip to Pit 3 on the Frimley complex. I moved into the swim around midday to see a few bubblers in my margin, so i flicked out a 12mm TNT Steamie on the hair with a few crushed baits in a small bag on the marginal shelf and put the other rod out on a zig rig as there were a few on the surface. Around 2pm I had a one-toner from the margin rod which left me looking at my first Frimley common at 21lb 8oz, after what I can only describe as an incredible fight.
Whilst I had been watching the water, I had seen a few shows at around 80 yards out in front, so I decided to put out a few spods of individual baits, tiger nut and toffee spod mix, and a few spods of 12mm TNT Steamies around the area throughout the day, just trickling in the bait, and leaving the area line-free to build confidence. Just before dark I got the rods ready for the night and put one to the area where I had seen the shows and one just off the spot with a single 12mm Steamie on the hair, and again a small bag of crushed baits on each. I stayed up for a while watching the water, full of confidence as the first one from a new venue always seems to be the hardest.
At around 630am I had a few bleeps which then turned into a one-toner. When I lifted into the fish I could tell instantly it was a better one as it was slower and had real power to its lunges. When I got it in the net and saw the size, I called for the guy in the swim next to me and together we weighed the beast in at 39lb 13oz. Can't wait to get back down there!
