A few weeks back, my dad and I, plus some close friends, had our first session on the Yateley Pads Lake. It was a three-night stint, with no action to start with, but the last 24 hours produced a 32lb mirror from weedy corner, and a 31lb P.B. (pictured). My friend cast 10 yards into marginal pads baited with maize for the duration of the session, and this was his first 30. His biggest fish before was 18lb!
My dad took the point swim, which I liked the look of, but unfortunately he blanked. I fished the Pole Position swim, and coming 4th out of the hat I was surprised I got this swim. Fish had showed on the first day but then all was quiet until the last night when I had a take at 8pm. After a nervy fight, taking me though pads and weed, I landed (pictured) a 29lb 14oz mirror.
I was shaking weighing her, as I knew she wasn’t far from the magical 30. Anyway, I slipped her back and re-cast in the dark to the same baited spot. About an hour later the rod roared into action again and I netted another at 24lb this time. We had a great time and we can't wait to get back again next year.
