Although a great many carp had suffered from KHV and were put down there are still the odd few that survived and appear to be getting ready to spawn. All anglers should, if possible, keep a landing net just for this venue or make sure they thoroughly dry their net before using it on another venue. There is the outside chance of damp nets carrying the disease to other venues so Cemex now provide landingnets/keepnets to official matches. These are thoroughly dried before being used again. Anyway back to fishing, Tench, Bream and both Common and Mirror Carp are still taking the bait and are putting up a good fight before being landed. The carp are being returned to the water as no fisherman likes to put a fish down if it looks ok. In the future they may have to be removed but at the moment they are 'catch and release'. Many anglers are returning to sample the fishing and are not being disappointed as the recently added silver fish are making a showing. The good weather during April even brought fish to the surface to take a floating crust. That was April, lets hope May is just as good.
